Hats Exercise

I developed a Hats Strengths Exercise to evaluate which CliftonStrengths to pull on and what to let go of to avoid blind spots in the various roles I play every day.

Start by listing three or four roles you play or hats you wear day-to-day. Next, analyze which of your strengths you need to thrive in each role and, just as importantly, which strength you need to turn down.

Conscious Complaining Worksheet

We like to complain about things other people are responsible to fix - it is natural.

What’s harder, and far more powerful, is determining what’s within our control to help shift things toward the better.

That’s why I’m a big fan of a tool I learned called conscious complaining. Rather than letting frustration simmer, we name what’s not working, ask ourselves what we truly want, and shift toward one action we can take while releasing our frustration into an imaginary complaint box.

It’s a simple practice, but incredibly effective. Writing it down helps clear the mental clutter and creates space for more constructive thinking.
